Mr. Plankton – Episode 1 Summary
The first episode of Mr Plankton opens with an intense moment where Hae-jo is lying helpless in the snow clinging to life as Jae-mi runs toward him screaming his name. From there the story takes us back to explain how these two got to this point.
Hae-jo lives a rather unusual life. He runs a small business that’s not exactly ordinary—it’s all about fulfilling people’s strange or personal requests. For him it’s more than just work he actually enjoys doing these odd jobs. One day while casually searching for a new task a woman approaches him with an outrageous request she wants him to kidnap her during her wedding ceremony. At first his friend and business partner Gi-ho strongly warns him not to go through with it. The woman’s groom is a dangerous gang boss and crossing him could mean big trouble. But Hae-jo, curious and daring as always, accepts the request.
The day of the wedding arrives and chaos soon follows. Hae-jo barges into the ceremony snatches the bride and speeds away with her on his motorbike. As thrilling as the escape seems it doesn’t last long. While riding Hae-jo gets lost in painful memories of being abandoned by his parents when he was young. The emotional distraction leads to a terrible accident and the bike crashes. When Hae-jo wakes up in the hospital the bride is gone. To his shock he learns that she wasn’t helpless at all—in fact she had plotted everything herself. She not only ran away from the wedding but also stole money from the gangster groom using Hae-jo as the perfect cover.
At the same time, Hae-jo receives devastating personal news. The doctors inform him that he has inherited a rare brain disease from his biological father. His time is running out and he may only have three months left to live.
The drama then shifts focus to Jae-mi, the woman we saw at the beginning. She is about to marry into a very traditional family that places huge importance on heirs and family legacy. Her in-laws give her a precious family heirloom ring believing she is already pregnant. But Jae-mi’s world shatters when she learns from her doctor that she is not pregnant at all—the supposed baby was a lie crafted by her groom to convince his family to accept her. To make things worse she discovers she has entered early menopause meaning she cannot have children in the future. This devastating truth leaves her heartbroken and furious.
At the hospital, Hae-jo happens to witness Jae-mi breaking down in frustration. It’s here we learn that the two actually share a history. They were in a relationship for three years until they split up because Jae-mi wanted kids, while Hae-jo was against having them. Their reunion feels heavy and bittersweet both carrying wounds of their own.
Meanwhile the gangster groom cannot accept that his runaway bride betrayed him so he directs all his anger toward Hae-jo. Determined to make Hae-jo pay, he sets off in pursuit.
As the episode closes, Hae-jo makes a bold decision. He attends Jae-mi’s wedding not to stop it dramatically but to urge her to leave with him. The first episode ends with this tense moment setting the stage for their complicated journey ahead.
Mr. Plankton – Episode 2 Summary
Episode 2 of Mr. Plankton dives deeper into Hae-jo’s painful past. From the outside, his childhood seemed perfect. After his father’s recovery from cancer his parents struggled for years to conceive a child before finally turning to IVF. Eventually they had Hae-jo and he was treasured deeply during his early years. But when Hae-jo was just eight everything changed. His parents found out the clinic had made a mistake and he wasn’t biologically related to his father. The devastating truth turned his happy family into a nightmare. His parents who once adored him, began to treat him like an outsider. Feeling rejected and unwanted young Hae-jo eventually ran away from home.
This memory still haunts Hae-jo in the present. Determined to find his real father, he confronts the doctor from the clinic demanding answers. His desperation quickly turns threatening, and finally, the doctor gives him information about his biological father. This sets up Hae-jo’s next big mission discovering his true family roots, even as time is running out because of his rare illness.
The story then shifts back to the present at Jae-mi’s wedding. Just before the ceremony, her groom, Eo Heung walks into her room only to find Hae-jo there. Caught off guard, Hae-jo improvises and pretends to be Jae-mi’s friend from the orphanage. Jae-mi panicked by the situation tries to push him out of the room before Heung suspects anything. But things spiral out of control Hae-jo suddenly seizes the moment and kidnaps Jae-mi. She protests fiercely and in the chaos she accidentally hits her head and faints.
This incident sends Heung’s household into turmoil. One of the family’s employees spots the kidnapping and rushes to inform Heung’s mother the powerful head of the family. At the same time, the gangster whose fiancée once ran away with Hae-jo is also hot on his tail. He kidnaps Gi-ho, Hae-jo’s loyal partner, and forces him to help track down Hae-jo’s location. Now, Hae-jo is being hunted by two powerful forces Heung’s influential family and the vengeful gangster.
As for Jae-mi once she regains consciousness, she makes spirited attempts to escape from Hae-jo. Her antics bring a touch of comedy to the tense situation, but each plan fails in one hilarious way or another. A flashback reveals why. Before their wedding, Heung had lovingly given Jae-mi a pair of shoes and promised that, no matter what, he would find her if she ever ran away. Those shoes now serve as a tether between them, and Jae-mi tries to use that promise to her advantage.
Hae-jo and Jae-mi end up in a quiet deserted town where they change clothes to avoid being recognized. Jae-mi secretly takes advantage of the situation by leaving a voice message for Heung using the shop owner’s phone, slipping him hints about her location. Without informing his family, Heung immediately sets out to get her back.
Later, Hae-jo and Jae-mi stop at a small restaurant for dinner. While there, Hae-jo discreetly plucks a strand of the owner’s hair and sends it for a DNA test through his shady contacts another step in his quest to find his biological father. When he realizes he has lost his wallet he swallows his pride and asks the restaurant owner if they can stay the night. Surprisingly, they’re given a small room for free.
As the night falls old emotions begin to creep back. Jae-mi admits that there was a time when she genuinely wanted to stay with Hae-jo. Her honesty makes the atmosphere heavy and awkward. When Hae-jo eventually drifts off to sleep Jae-mi sees her chance and quietly tries to slip away. But before she can leave, she hears him murmur “Don’t go” in his sleep, stopping her in her tracks.
