Actor Gong Yoo’s agency said Monday that a person who disseminated misleading information and uploaded offensive material against the actor over a number of years had been given a jail sentence with a suspended period.
A woman in her 40s who had “habitually spread slander and falsehoods” against the actor since 2020 was recently found guilty by the Daejeon District Court and given a six-month prison term with a two-year suspension, according to a statement released by his agency Management SOOP on Tuesday.
The actor’s image was seriously harmed by the perpetrator’s repeated online postings of false information and defamatory remarks, the agency said, adding that the court had acknowledged the “malicious intent and gravity” of the offenses in imposing the punishment.
In addition to reiterating its zero-tolerance stance for online harassment, the agency promised to pursue vigorous legal action without mercy or settlement, including in cases that are still pending.
Administration In the past, SOOP has taken legal action to defend Gong Hyo-jin and Suzy as well as other performers that are under its control. The actor’s reputation was badly harmed by the aforementioned offender’s continuous posting of fake information and remarks on websites. The court acknowledged the seriousness of the offense and the malicious purpose, thereby finding the offender guilty.
